Introduction
Superconductivity – Part of the Global Energy Solution
Welcome to the Applied Superconductivity Conference, ASC 2010, to be held August 1 - 6, 2010 in the United States National Capital city, Washington, DC.
Superconducting technology has matured over the past quarter century and now is establishing a growing role in meeting the energy challenges of the 21st century. From efficient, power dense applications such as transmission lines for the smart grid or motors for industrial or transportation needs, to very low power quantum level devices for sensing and logic elements, superconducting applications are offering unparalleled performance capable of meeting our growing energy needs. Key to progress will be continued development of new materials and advanced development of materials targeted for specific applications. System designs stressing reliable, long term use that can compete economically with other technologies are a major focus of the superconducting industry as it grows its customer base.
ASC 2010 will be a five day conference bringing together leaders in the commercial, military, research, university, and industrial communities from around the world to discuss progress and challenges in the field of applied superconductivity. There will be several plenary sessions focused on overviews and the broad prospectus of the field, exhibitors from major superconducting and cryogenic companies, as well as daily technical discussions from an anticipated 1400 attendees from 70 countries.
Our venue at the Omni Shoreham Hotel is superb. The OMNI is a historic hotel in Washington, DC that has been completely remodeled in recent years. It is close to a Metro stop that provides broad access to the city. All conference events will be held in the hotel which should be large enough to hold all conference participants – maximizing information exchange.
Please join us at ASC 2010. As co-chairs of the conference we plan to offer you a great opportunity to participate of the excitement of developing superconductivity as part of the global energy solution.
We look forward to welcoming you to Washington, DC at ASC 2010 in August 2010.
